The Sunset Plaza Grand Opening Celebration on Sunday, September 17th was such a joy, and 350 neighbours came to celebrate in the creation and opening of this beautiful street-closure plaza. There was food, music, games, and a cake-cutting ceremony! City Councillors Lisa Dominato and Mike Klassen joined the community. Our partners in this celebration were South Vancouver Neighbourhood House, United Way BC, Sablok Sablok Notary Public as a sponsor, and South Vancouver Community Policing Centre provided many volunteers.
The Sunset on Fraser Business Association spent the past two years working with the City of Vancouver to make this possible. From the make-shift benches that lined the boulevard for the first two years, to a full street-closure, official plaza, the business association pushed every step of the way. It is the only outdoor plaza in all the city south of 27th Avenue. It has one of the most beautiful ground murals in the city done by artist Mara Cortez. The planters and storage unit are artworks by Marian de Gier. This plaza is for everyone to enjoy! Book an event by contacting the Sunset on Fraser Business Association!
